Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble is among Poland’s most dynamic ensembles specialising in the performance of contemporary music. The musicians have graced renowned festivals such as MaerzMusik in Berlin, the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, AFEKT Festival in Estonia, the Warsaw Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music, Sacrum Profanum, Audio Art, Unsound, Musica Moderna, NeoArte — The Art Synthesizer, the Festival of Musical Tradition and Avant-Garde “KODY,” Musica Polonica Nova, and the Młodzi Muzycy Młodemu Miastu 2.0 festival in Stalowa Wola.
Their most noteworthy accoladeincludes the prestigious Ensemble Prize awarded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, as well as nominations for the Coryphaeus of Polish Music and the 2022 Fryderyk awards in the Contemporary Music Album of the Year category.
The ensemble has had the privilege of participating in the Ensemble-Akademie Freiburg masterclasses for ensembles led by ensemble recherche, and selection, as one of only four ensembles, for the Young Ensemble Academy, where they worked with the legendary Ensemble Modern.

Spółdzielnia Muzyczna is strongly connected with its home city of Kraków, where for years it has been developing a number of recurring initiatives, such as INTERACTIONS – concerts combined with open conversations between creators, performers, and audiences; PLAYGROUND: call for collaborations – a project with selected artists culminating in the performance of jointly developed compositions; OPEN SPACE – workshops on new instrumental techniques for composers; and OPEN YOUR EARS, OPEN YOUR EYES – educational and interdisciplinary events that introduce wide audiences to new sounds.

Flutes
Born in 1987 in Limanowa, she began her musical education at the age of ten at the F. Chopin State Music School in Nowy Sącz, in the flute class. She is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków in the class of Prof. Barbara Świątek-Żelazny. She further honed her skills at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz under Prof. Dejan Gavriĉ as part of the Erasmus-Socrates programme, and later during her studies at the University of Agder in Kristiansand in the class of Prof. Jørn Eivind Schau and Prof. Lars Asbjørnsen.
She maintains an active artistic career as a chamber musician and orchestral player. During her stay in Norway, she completed an internship with the Kristiansand Symfoniorkester (2013/2014 artistic season) and was a member of Det Norske Fløyteensemble. From 2015 to 2018, she was a flutist with the Musical Theatre in Lublin; in the 2018/2019 artistic season she collaborated with the Castle Opera in Szczecin, and from 2019 to 2021 with the Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra.
Since 2015, she has been a member of the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, with which she has participated in numerous festivals and projects such as the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Warsaw Autumn,” Sacrum Profanum, the Festival of Musical Tradition and Avant-Garde KODY, ELEMENTI, NeoArte — The Art Synthesizer, Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City, the Kromer Festival Biecz, Audio Art, opera rara, Workin’ Progress and Ars Moderna.
In 2019 she performed at the Warsaw Autumn as a guest with Ensemble Kompopolex. In the same year, during the summer courses organized by NOR59-Strykeinsitutt (Oslo), she taught in the flute group.
She has also developed her skills during numerous masterclasses with world-class flutists, including Ruth Wentorf, Moshe Aron Epstein, Wissam Boustany, János Bálint, Mirjam Nastasi, Wally Hase, Carlo Jans, Jean-Claude Gérard, Davide Formisano, Robert Aitken, Pierre-Yves Artaud, and Martin Fahlenbock. In 2018, together with the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, she took part in the Ensemble-Akademie Freiburg led by ensemble recherche.

He graduated with distinction from the Wanda Kossakowa State Music School I and II degree in Sanok in the class of Wiesław Brudek, and completed his master’s studies in the class of Prof. Andrzej Godek at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. He is currently a doctoral student under the supervision of Prof. Janusz Antonik, at his home institution.
Tomasz Sowa obtained a master’s degree with honours in the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, having studied with prof. Andrzej Godek.
He was awarded several dozen prizes in musical competitions held both in Poland and abroad, including Germany, Austria, Serbia, Italy, and South Africa: besides first prize, gold medal, and audience award at the Junior Delphic Games in Johannesburg (2011), he won first prizes at the National Clarinet Festival in Krosno (2009, 2012) and in the International Music Competition in London (2015), among other accolades. Apart from that he earned two particular distinctions: the Gottfried von Ainem Award (2016) and the Viktor Kalabis Award during the isa FESTIVAL in Austria (2017).
Featured repeatedly in renowned concert halls across Europe and beyond, he visited Thailand, China, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Great Britain, France, Czechia, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, Greece, and Armenia, among other countries.
He has given masterclasses to budding clarinettists in Poland, Thailand, Armenia, and Belgium. His numerous festival performances include the isa FESTIVAL in Wien, the Aurora Music Festival in Stockholm, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, South Africa’s National Arts Festival, Shanghai’s MISA Festival, Dubai’s Expo Festival, the European Festival of Jan Kiepura in Krynica-Zdrój, the international Adam Didur Festival in Sanok, the Summer Music Festival ‘Wawel at Dusk’ in Kraków, the International Folk Festival ‘World Wide’ in Puławy, and the Amber Road Festival in Kalisz.
Among the many symphonic orchestras he has worked with are that of the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Kraków, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, CORda Cracovia, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
With chamber music occupying a special place in his professional life, the clarinettist formed the Cracow Golden Quintet. Awarded several prizes in prestigious competitions, the group earned many enthusiastic reviews, performing in Poland—in the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music or in the Kraków Philharmonic, for instance—as well as in the world—in such celebrated venues as Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome or the Aram Khachatryan Hall in Yerevan.
He has received grants through the ‘Młoda Polska’ (Young Poland) state-funded programme, from Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (three times), from the J&S Pro Bono Poloniae foundation, from the Sanok Poviat Staroste, the Podkarpacka Foundation for the Development of Culture, and Warsaw’s Centrum Edukacji Artystycznej.

Born in 1990 in Cieszyn. In 2009, he completed his studies at the I. J. Paderewski State Music School I and II degree in Cieszyn, in the saxophone class of Tomasz Gmyrek. In 2014, he graduated with distinction from his second-cycle studies in the saxophone class of Prof. Andrzej Rzymkowski, at the Academy of Music in Kraków. In 2015, he completed postgraduate studies in the class of Univ.-Prof. Lars Mlekusch at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität. In 2018, he obtained the title of Doctor of Arts at the Academy of Music in Kraków.
He has taken part in numerous national and international competitions. His most significant achievements include: 2nd place at the 1st National Wind Instruments Competition in Wrocław (2007), 3rd place at the 6th National Saxophone Festival in Przeworsk (2006), 3rd place at the 8th National Saxophone Festival in Przeworsk (2008), reaching the semifinals of the 7th International Saxophone Competition “Gustav Bumcke” in Nuremberg (2010), reaching the semifinals of the 1st International Saxophone Competition “Golden Sax of Odessa” (2013), reaching the final of the 1st University-Wide Competition “Debut with the Orchestra” at the Academy of Music in Kraków (2014), and reaching the semifinals of the 8th Michał Spisak International Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza (2014).
He has participated in many masterclasses for saxophone, studying with artists such as Arno Bornkamp, Nobuya Sugawa, Lars Mlekush, Günter Priesner, Vincent David, Massimo Mazzoni, and Claus Olesen. Violin, Viola
A violinist, chamber musician, and performer of contemporary music. She is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków, which she completed with distinction in the class of Prof. Kaja Danczowska. She refined her skills at masterclasses with Jan Stanienda, Grigori Zhislin, and Krzysztof Jakowicz. From 2014 to 2017, together with the Antarja Quartet, she studied chamber music at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien under the guidance of Prof. Johannes Meissl and Vida Vujic.
She performs in Poland and abroad. Since 2009, she has been a co-founder of the Antarja Quartet, with which she has appeared at international festivals in Italy, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Serbia, Macedonia, Slovenia, and Iran. Together with the ensemble, she has participated in masterclasses with groups such as the Apollon Musagete Quartett, the Shanghai Quartet, the Belcea Quartet, and the Diotima Quartet. In 2016, the quartet won First Prize at the 3rd Chamber Tournament in Bydgoszcz, which led to the release of an album featuring works by Felix Mendelssohn and Krzysztof Penderecki.
Her fascination with contemporary music began in 2013, after being selected for the German-Polish project European Workshop for Contemporary Music. She took part in the 47th International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt. She refined her skills under the guidance of members of Kwartludium, Ensemble Garage, Ensemble Modern, and ensemble recherche. Since 2014, she has been a member of the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, with which she has performed at major international festivals in Poland, such as Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum, MUSICA MODERNA, the Festival of Musical Tradition and Avant-Garde KODY, Audio Art, and NeoArte — The Art Synthesizer.
In 2021, she received the Young Poland Scholarship and the Creative Scholarship of the City of Kraków. She is currently affiliated with the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic Orchestra in Kraków.
Paulina Woś
Violin, Viola
She graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków. She performs on modern and baroque violins as well as on the viola. In her artistic work, she focuses on chamber music — both early and contemporary.
One of her passions is exploring early music and performing it in accordance with historical practices. She pursues this, among other ways, as a member of the Quartetto Nero, a string quartet performing on historical instruments. Together with the ensemble, she received First Prize and the Special Award at the 2nd Early Music Chamber Forum Competition in Poznań (2016), and became a finalist of the Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music in Rzeszów (2019).
The quartet has performed at numerous European early music festivals, the most notable being Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Spanish ECOS Festival de Música Antigua en Sierra Espuña, and Misteria Paschalia in Kraków. In 2019, the ensemble released its first album, featuring music by Stanisław Moniuszko and Karol Kurpiński.
Contemporary music holds a special place in her repertoire: she explores the classics of contemporary music and is also familiar with performance art. She has given many world and Polish premieres of works by Franco Donatoni, Trond Reinholdtsen, Johannes Kreidler, Jennifer Walshe, Michael Beil, Salvatore Sciarrino, Piotr Peszat, Marta Śniady, Jacek Sotomski, and Paweł Malinowski. Together with the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, she conducts regular concert and educational activities. She has performed at numerous festivals, including the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Warsaw Autumn,” Sacrum Profanum, NeoArte — The Art Synthesizer, the Festival of Musical Tradition and Avant-Garde KODY, and opera rara. In 2018, while taking part in the Ensemble-Akademie Freiburg, she worked under the guidance of ensemble recherche. She is one of the founders of the group Formy żeńskie.
Beyond her chamber music activities, she collaborates with several orchestras, performing as a member and soloist and participating in recording projects. These include Capella Cracoviensis, Cornu Copiae, the Orchestra of the “Academy of Early Music” Foundation, and Il Giardino d’Amore.
In 2019, she was awarded the Young Poland Scholarship, and in 2020 she received the Creative Scholarship of the City of Kraków.
JakubGucik
Cello
A graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków (2013). He focuses primarily on chamber music performance. He is the cellist of several ensembles: Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, PerDuo Vnc, and IPT Wójciński/Bańdur/Gucik, with which he performs in Poland and abroad. He is also affiliated with several Kraków theatre groups, including Teatr Szczęście, Teatr Odwrócony, and Teatr Bez Scenografii. He is the author of theatre, electroacoustic, and electronic music. As a member of a string quartet, he won 4th place (2006) and 1st place (2007) at the Talents for Europe competition in Dolný Kubín, Slovakia, also receiving in 2007 the special award funded by the Moyzes Quartet.
In 2010 he received a scholarship to participate in masterclasses held as part of the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer festival. A four-time (2016–2019) laureate of the FAMA Festival in Świnoujście, he was awarded the Andrzej Jakóbiec Prize in 2018 and the “Neptune’s Trident” in 2019. Winner of the First Prize in the J. Patkowski National Composers’ Competition (2017).
He performs at festivals such as the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Warsaw Autumn,” Sacrum Profanum, Wszystkie Strony Świata, Ensemble-Akademie Freiburg, Świętokrzyskie Dni Muzyki, Heures Musicales de la Vallée de la Bresle, NeoArte, Oberstdorfer Musiksommer, Audio Art, and MUSICA MODERNA.

Percussion, Electronics
Multi-percussionist, performer, improviser, sound artist and postdoc degree in Arts, based in Krakow, Poland. He specializes in performing Contemporary, Newand Experimental Music, as a soloist and chamber musician. His interests mostly revolve around multi-percussion and intermedia genres. His repertoir covers newly comissioned works, pieces of the last two decades, as well as classical and modern literature. He often focuses on post-instrumental issues, working with objects and on the corporeality of the performance. Aleksander is interested in braking traditional/academic practices and the experiment itself. He creates his own music combining musical genres–Lupnik, Komentarz eufemistyczny, Seeking Mother.
His activity includes free improvisation, instrumental performance art, composing and performing music for dance performance (Manhattan, MISSPIECE) and dramatic theater (Art of Living, Unmanly, in which productions he also performs stage roles). Writings of his have been published in the magazines Glissando and Ruch Muzyczny. He collaborated, among others with Pierre Jodlowski, Sara Nemtsov, Trond Reinholdtsen, Matthew Shlomowitz, Wojtek Blecharz. Among the most significant achievements is the World Premiere of Sarah Nemtsov’s concerto for solo percussionist, narrator and large orchestra En Face, own transcription of Zbigniew Karkowski’s noise composition for percussion and live-electronics Form and Disposition (together with Piotr Peszat), numerous solo recitals and chamber performances at most prominent festivals for New Music (MaerzMusik Berlin, Darmstadt, Warsaw Autumn, Unsound, Musica Electronica Nova, Sacrum Profanum). Currently he is a member of Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble (holder of Ernst von Siemens Ensemble Prize 2021-22 and ensembe in residence at Internationale Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik Darmstadt 2023), Krakow Improvisers Orchestra, duos: with Paulina Owczarek, and with Michał Lazar (Surreal Voyagers). As a guest artist he co-operated with Hashtag Ensemble and New Music Orchestra. He is collaborating with The Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theatre in Krakow and was also doing so with The Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Krakow. He was a member of Percurama Percussion Ensemble for many years. He obtained education in Denmark, Poland, Austria and Germany. This includes Academy of Music in Gdansk and Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen (reputable class led by Prof. Gert Mortensen, where he also completed prestigious Soloist Class), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, impuls Academy in Graz, Ensemble Recherche Akademie in Freiburg and IEMA. He defended his doctoral thesis at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, where he currently teaches in the Department of Percussion and Contemporary Music.
A soloist and chamber musician specializing in contemporary music performance. In 2019, she graduated with distinction from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, completing her master’s studies in the piano class of Prof. Elżbieta Tarnawska and in the piano chamber music class of Prof. Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska.
As a soloist, she has collaborated with the Lviv Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under Yuriy Bervetsky, as well as the Muzyka Naszych Czasów Orchestra under Marek Moś. In June 2019, she also made her debut at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, performing Andrzej Panufnik’s Piano Concerto with the National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Karol Szwech.
She is a recipient of a special prize at the 12th Competition of 20th- and 21st-Century Music for Young Performers in Radziejowice. Since 2020, she has collaborated as a guest performer with the Chain Ensemble chamber orchestra. Since 2023, she has been a member of the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble. Engaged in solo and chamber projects, she has performed in Poland and abroad: India, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, and Estonia.
She has given world and national premieres of works by composers such as Artur Zagajewski, Alex Mincek, Oliver Schneller, Nina Šenk, Teoniki Rożynek, Rafał Ryterski, Żaneta Rydzewska, Monika Szpyrka, Paweł Malinowski, Matthias Krüger, Nina Fukuoka, and Viacheslav Kyrylov.
She has performed at festivals including Warsaw Autumn, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Afekt Festival, the KODY Festival of Musical Tradition and Avant-Garde, TRZY-CZTE-RY, Łańcuch, Musica Polonica Nova, the New Music Stage at the Nowy Theatre, Elementi, and the Querceto International Piano Festival.

Piotr Peszat
Composer, Electronics
Composer and sound artist based in Cracow. His artistic activity combines elements of instrumental and electronic music as well as multimedia and performance. One of his most professional experiences is the first prize at the Roche Young Commissions competition after which, Jury members commissioned him an orchestra piece, which was performed during the 77th Lucerne Festival.
Peszat is the laureate of the DYCE — Discovering Young Composers of Europe Call for Scores in Milan (2019), Mise-En Music Festival 2019 Call for Score in New York (2019), 1st prize at the MCI Meetings Composition Competition in Copenhagen (2014), 2nd prize ex aequo at the 4th Krzysztof Penderecki Composition Competition in Sopot (2017). In December 2014 Piotr — together with a
Polish painter Katarzyna Feiglewicz — won the Competition for an Artistic Residency in Fljótstunga (Iceland).
Peszat participated in workshops and festivals where his compositions were presented: Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Gaudeamus Festival, HuddersfieldContemporary Music Festival, Ung Nordisk Musik Festival, Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, Audio Art, Sacrum Profanum, Ultraschall. He collaborated with ensembles such
as Ensemble Musikfabrik, Klangforum Wien, Nadar Ensemble, Ensemble Recherche, Ensemble Modern, Scenatet, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra czy Orkiestra Akademii Beethovenowskiej.
Peszat graduated with a distinction from the Music Academy in Cracow after composition studies with Krzysztof Meyer (2009-2014) as well as master studies at The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus in Simon Steen-Andersen’s and Niels Rønsholdt’s class (2013-15). Peszat holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Academy of Music in Cracow (2018). He received Habilitation in
2022.
In addition to autonomous activities, he creates music for theatre (among others Chinka — TR Warszawa, Koniec Miłości — TP Bydgoszcz, Dziki — TD Wałbrzych) and films (studio FilmLove).
He works as an adjunct professor in the Electroacoustic Music Studio at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków.
A music theorist and graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków, where she also completed studies in Church Music. She currently works as a teacher of ear training and coordinates projects for Spółdzielnia Muzyczna, providing organizational and substantive support. She has collaborated with the online journal and foundation MEAKULTURA, co-authoring the publication “A Hundred Years of Musical Emigration: Polish Composers Abroad (1918–2018)”, as well as with the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art, for which she created the educational programme “Introduction to Life in Culture: The Life of Instruments.” She is a participant in the Music Editing Seminar organized by PWM.
