SOUND (WALK)

2026

SOUND (WALK) is a family-oriented educational and artistic event inspired by the concept of the soundwalk, developed in the 1970s by Canadian composer and acoustic ecology researcher Raymond Murray Schafer. Schafer encouraged group walks during which participants listen attentively to their surrounding sound environment, rediscover everyday sounds, and share their impressions and associations. SOUND (WALK) expands on this idea by combining elements of a soundwalk with live music performances and activities designed to engage both children and parents.

The event offers an opportunity to explore the relationship between sound, imagination, and storytelling. Participants will be invited to listen closely to their surroundings, the sounds of the street, the rustling of trees, footsteps, voices, and the incidental rhythms of the city, which will serve as the starting point for a concert and a conversation about how we listen to the world, and how sounds influence our emotions and perception of reality.

SOUND (WALK) aims to encourage mindfulness, develop imagination and listening skills, and show young participants that music does not exist only in the concert hall. It can also be found in everyday experiences, the natural environment, and the ordinary sounds of urban life. By combining education, play, and art, the event creates a space for shared, intergenerational discovery of the world through listening.
