Dictionary of Imaginary Sounds – Resonances
The Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Association, Migawka Foundation, and the MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków invite you to Dictionary of Imaginary Sounds – Resonances, a project that enables Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing people to experience music together.
Dictionary of Imaginary Sounds – Resonances reduces barriers to participation in culture, particularly those related to social inclusion, confidence, and access to knowledge and experience. The project demonstrates that music can be experienced not only through hearing, but also through touch, sight, movement, and emotion. Through this initiative, the organizers create a safe and inclusive environment that supports shared participation and meaningful encounters among Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing people.
The project consists of four workshop sessions and a final concert that brings the workshop process to a close. During the concert, the Music Cooperative will perform Dictionary of Imaginary Sounds – Resonances, a work developed by Piotr Peszat.
The project incorporates vibroacoustic systems (SubPacs, bass belts and haptic instruments), sound visualizations, music-responsive lighting, graphic scores, and interpretation into Polish Sign Language (PJM). As a result, both the workshops and the concert are designed in accordance with the principles of universal design, making them accessible, understandable, and engaging for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing participants alike.
